Fires in Provincetown

Here’s a really good video shot by a Facebook friend of mine, of one of two fires in Provincetown just the other day. This one was confined to one apartment in the building on Commercial Street, while the other fire was at Foley House. The official cause of both fires is still under investigation, but suspicion is that this one was caused by a lit cigarette in bed. Although it gutted the entire second floor of this house, thankfully none of the four young men that live there were hurt. They all lost most of their belongings, but at least they escaped with their lives!

The Provincetown Volunteer Fire Department arrived within minutes, and immediately called for backup from the towns of Truro, Wellfleet and Orleans due to the fact that the fire was located in the heavily congested Commercial street area, where it could have easily spread to other buildings. My understanding is that the four men have received adequate donations and offers of help for now (coordinated by the buxom and beautious Katie Ledoux at ASGCC!) This was the first time the Ptown Volunteer Fire Department got to use it’s new hook and ladder truck, and everything worked like clockwork, and the fires were put under control before anyone was seriously injured, or any other structures could catch fire.

Congratulations to all the Volunteer Firemen and Rescue Workers, as well as the many volunteers and community members that stepped in at a moment’s notice to help. It warms the cockles of my heart to know this community works so well in a time of need. It’s a good reason to give up smoking, or sleeping, I tell ya!

Love ya, hon!
